I first became involved with Citizens Advisory Board in 2010. I had been running the Norman Ace hardware stores for a couple years and looking for ways to engage with the community. After joining the Leadership Norman class of 2009/2010 I was offered an opportunity to work on CAB’s Coaches Luncheon. I had always known about the event but had no clue as to who was behind it. What I learned that day in 2010 was remarkable. Having grown up in a relatively stable environment compared to what these kids go through, I couldn’t help but want to be involved. My involvement within leadership Norman introduced me to Deidra Peters and she invited me to a board meeting.
Since joining Citizens Advisory Board, I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of all of the Coaches Luncheons. Each and every year it’s success grows, unfortunately the need grows far faster.
I feel I have gained tremendously more than I have given back to the agency. What we do fills a vital need in the community and I am amazed every year at our accomplishments. In addition, every dollar we raise goes back into the services that we provide and the programs that we support.
The thing I have enjoyed most about being a part of CAB is hearing the stories of the kids that we have been able to help who have been removed from harmful environments and hear about kids that are graduating high school and the impact that CAB has had on young lives.
