Fostering Futures newest program was created to ensure children have their basic clothing needs met. An additional benefit is that stress is taken off the new placement provider and the child that first night, as less preparation is required. Fostering Futures Luggage With Love helps minimize some of the trauma and strain that children experience as the placement provider is allowed to focus on the child and their emotional needs, and not worry about what the child will wear to sleep that night or to school the next day.
Upon entering a new placement, the placement provider can request assistance from Fostering Futures Luggage With Love. Upon request, a suitcase is prepared with two complete outfits – 2 tops, 2 bottoms, 3 pair of socks, 3 pair of underwear, 1 pair of pajamas & 1 pair of shoes – as well as a coat, jacket, or swimsuit, depending on the season. The luggage also contains a blanket and age appropriate book or toy and a small personal hygiene kit. All clothing is new, no used clothing is included. Once prepared, this luggage is delivered to the placement provider, often the same day as the request was placed.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are needed to deliver the luggage, which is typically done from 4:30 – 9:00 pm. All Volunteers are required to complete the DHS volunteer process, which includes a background check done through the Child Welfare system. Fostering Futures Luggage With Love is in constant need of inventory items. We stock clothing from size newborn/preemie through kids 14-16. Teens are given a gift card to pick out clothing to fit their own tastes.
